Discovering Yourself
How do you go about discovering yourself and a career that would be rewarding and satisfying? You can start with overcoming obstacles that hold you back from accomplishing your goals. The two biggest road blocks are fear and uncertainty.
Fear - It leads us to believe we are too old to change; If I change jobs I may have to start at the bottom; What if I fail . . . Being afraid of change is normal and it is necessary to acknowledge it, but do not let it prevent you from moving forward. One way of conquering your fear is to look to other people who have gone through a life and/or career change.
Uncertainty – It is obvious to most people what they do not want, rather than what they do want. We are too busy living out other peoples’ expectations of us, where we lose sight of what actually makes us happy. Or we do not know how we can transfer our skills and talent into meaningful work we would enjoy.
