How to deal with stress when circumstances in our lives or others’ lives are being reshaped?  Modifications in our lives can impact and affect us all differently.  Whether it takes place in our
individual life or in the world we live in we all react, think and feel differently.  Some transformations that occur within the world we live results in some of us feeling joy, excitement and optimism.  However, the same transformation may leave others feeling despair, stress and gloom.

You are in control of how you choose to react, think and feel
about changes that are not pleasing to you.  The new government has caused many to feel despair and stress amongst many other emotions.  In spite of what some are feeling, they have taken action in protesting in hopes of stopping injustices and creating
change for the better.  This is an inspiration to all who are not
satisfied with how the new administration is trying to alter
America into something it should not be.

Life Changing

Tips

If you are not happy with the current situation and are feeling
stressed here are a few suggestions that may help you in alleviating your tension:

Remain POSITIVE in knowing the situation is not hopeless.  In uncertain times or circumstances it is important to keep a positive outlook.  Ask yourself what part can I play in helping to make the situation better.  Keep your thoughts upbeat.  Because in you being hopeful will create promising feelings; such as, optimism.  As a result, your actions and attitude will be more concrete in you making the situation better instead of worse.

Get INVOLVED utilizing your passion and enthusiasm to join with others to jumpstart creating change that has a victorious outcome.  Unity, passion and action can make things happen.  Stay optimistic and decide how you can be helpful in making life better for you and someone else.  You may not get the results you want the first time.  However, let it be a motivator for you not to give up and keep moving forward for what you believe in.

Practice SELF-CARE to ensure you are nurturing your physical, emotional and mental needs.  It is important to slow down, relax and re-energize so that you get relief from your burden and have the strength to keep moving forward in your journey.  Find time to spend on taking care of you by doing enjoyable activities that are relaxing.  Or simply do nothing at all, whichever will be most beneficial to you in restoring your physical, emotional and mental well-being.

PRAYER.  If you are spiritual and pray, then you know how powerful prayer can be in transforming your life and the world we live in.  You can practice praying according to your spiritual beliefs.  You can pray about the fortunate changes you desire for your family, others and the world to become a reality.  Remaining faithful in prayer can be life changing.

“Fervent prayers produce phenomenal results.”
~Woodrow Kroll

How are you practicing self-awareness in your
work and home life?
leadership skills
What does being a leader mean to you?  You can be a leader in both your personal and professional life.  Leadership is having a vision and the ability to influence peoples’ performance or activity towards achieving a common goal.  Being an effective leader entails possessing different qualities.  Some of those qualities would include having emotional intelligence, being a visionary, and being influential.

Let’s talk about emotional intelligence.  Emotional intelligence involves people having different abilities in which they are able to successfully manage themselves internally and their relationships.  Self-awareness is one competency of emotional intelligence I believe is very important to a leader’s success.  Because it allows people to be mindful of their feelings, helping them to realize how their emotional state in certain situations could impact relationships, a teams’ performance, peoples’ impression of you, and much more.  It seems that it would be a difficult road to success for leaders that lack emotional self-awareness.

Research conducted by Erich C. Dierdorff and Robert S. Rubin HBR.org found that high self-awareness leads to better team performance.  A simulation done by them for high self-awareness teams showed that decision making, conflict management, and coordination were the three main areas positively impacted.  Also, that the probability of team success slightly doubled or doubled in comparison to low self-awareness teams.

Self-Awareness in Leadership

When practicing self-awareness in leadership remember to be mindful and recognize your emotions.  Before interacting with others decide how you want to impact the situation and what you want the outcome to be.  It is important to manage your feelings in a positive manner.  Managing your feelings negatively can cause conflict with your colleagues and team which could jeopardize you reaching the business vision.  People are more likely to follow, respect, trust, and share with you when you approach them with a positive attitude.

Another way of practicing self-awareness as a lead is to know your strengths and weaknesses.  In doing so, will allow you to delegate tasks or projects you lack skills in to a team member who has the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary.  Know each team member’s strengths and weaknesses as well.  This will help you in effectively utilizing your team, increasing your chances of accomplishing company goals.  Being intimidated by a team member who has strengths in an area you may not and not utilizing their skills only stunts your growth and the teams’.  In showing them that you trust them and care about their professional development will more likely make them more cooperative and productive.

Lastly, you can practice self-awareness as a leader by being confident.  Believe in yourself knowing that you have the capabilities and are worthy of leading your team.  For instance, if a problem or failure occurs due to a decision you made, don’t blame someone else.  Accept it, learn from it, and move forward by finding a solution.  If necessary, practice self-confidence and ask others who were involved for their feedback regarding the issue and possible solutions.

Remember not to act negatively towards a person who may give you unfavorable feedback.  Success is not always guaranteed.  Set an example for your team, by being aware of your mistake, its cause, share it with those who were involved, and conquer any fears that may prevent you from moving forward.  Let it be a lesson learned for both you and your team.  In doing so, will increase yours and your teams’ confidence in making decisions in the future.
